Summary

A strange darkness grows in Allward。

Even Corayne an-Amarat can feel it, tucked away in her small town at the edge of the sea。

She soon discovers the truth: She is the last of an ancient lineage—and the last hope to save the world from destruction。 But she won’t be alone。 Even as darkness falls, she is joined by a band of unlikely companions:

A squire, forced to choose between home and honor。
An immortal, avenging a broken promise。
An assassin, exiled and bloodthirsty。
An ancient sorceress, whose riddles hide an eerie foresight。
A forger with a secret past。
A bounty hunter with a score to settle。

Together they stand against a vicious opponent, invincible and determined to burn all kingdoms to ash, and an army unlike anything the realm has ever witnessed。

From the world-building to the characters, I loved every single thing about this epic book! The prologue was superbly written and pulled me in right from the very first word。 I loved reading from each character’s perspective and how they journeyed to meet each other。 I also loved that Aveyard included many diverse characters! And don’t even get me started on the villain romance! I am so excited to read the next book!

This was a fantastic epic fantasy! The characters were multi-dimensional and felt real。 You will love and hate them。 This is a great beginning of a new series by the author who brought us the wonderful Red Queen series。 I will say I was having a hard time following the prologue but it all started making sense a couple of chapters in。 I felt we got thrown in completely to the world just a little quickly。 I did very much appreciate the maps on the inside covers (the are the same inside the front a This was a fantastic epic fantasy! Victoria Aveyard continues to spurn Young Adult fiction standards。 She strays away from the common romance plot even more so than the Red Queen Series。 Oftentimes when authors have many character POVs, there's one or two characters I hate reading, but I loved every character in this series。 Definitely recommend if you like the "a rag tag band of heros to save the world。" A pirate daughter, a noble squire, an Immortal giant, a muttering, rhyming witch, a kick butt sassy assassin。 Victoria Aveyard continues to spurn Young Adult fiction standards。 She strays away from the common romance plot even more so than the Red Queen Series。 Oftentimes when authors have many character POVs, there's one or two characters I hate reading, but I loved every character in this series。 Definitely recommend if you like the "a rag tag band of heros to save the world。" A pirate daughter, a noble squire, an Immortal giant, a muttering, rhyming witch, a kick butt sassy assassin。 。。。more

This is a GREAT fantasy adventure, the king that you'd imagine seeing on the big screen。 I haven't read Aveyard before, but considering that this is a series, I know I'll be reading her again。 She's able to write fantasy in a way that, for the most part, maintains the thrills and keeps the reader (especially if they're a fantasy-lover) highly, highly engaged。 This is a GREAT fantasy adventure, the king that you'd imagine seeing on the big screen。 I haven't read Aveyard before, but considering that this is a series, I know I'll be reading her again。 She's able to write fantasy in a way that, for the most part, maintains the thrills and keeps the reader (especially if they're a fantasy-lover) highly, highly engaged。 。。。more

Realm Breaker by Victoria Aveyard Spindles are opening up all across Allward and now after one failed attempt, Corayne a pirates daughter must close the Spindles that are releasing all manner of beasts。 If you’re looking for an adventure that is reminiscent of Tolkien’s Fellowship then give this book a read。 If I had one complaint about this story it’s that there are two chapters that confused me as to why they were in there but I know she’s planning a trilogy so I guess we’ll see。 Give it read!

This is such a good book! I cannot wait for the next installment。 These characters are so fun to read and the premise is different enough from other fantasy books to hold me hostage! It isn’t often I find myself obsessed with side characters even more than the MC, but almost every character in this book had me riveted to find out more of their story。 If you enjoyed Nevernight, Three Dark Crowns or Fable, you’ll enjoy this one! 5/5 stars from me!

“To the horizon, and beyond it。 To whoever I am in my bones。”Victoria Aveyard’s Realm Breaker submerges her readers into the Allward, a realm full of magic。 The story’s prologue begins, tragically, with a group of champions who fail to stop the evil Taristan from opening a passageway between worlds, known as a Spindle。 Realm Breaker then transports its readers to a small sea-side town where Corayne an-Amarat is stuck, unable to be the person she dreams of becoming。 Corayne is quickly drawn into “To the horizon, and beyond it。 To whoever I am in my bones。”Victoria Aveyard’s Realm Breaker submerges her readers into the Allward, a realm full of magic。 The story’s prologue begins, tragically, with a group of champions who fail to stop the evil Taristan from opening a passageway between worlds, known as a Spindle。 Realm Breaker then transports its readers to a small sea-side town where Corayne an-Amarat is stuck, unable to be the person she dreams of becoming。 Corayne is quickly drawn into the struggle to save her world when an Immortal and an assassin arrive on her doorstep to tell her that only she can stop Taristan’s plot。 In company with a group of unlikely allies, Corayne embarks on a seemingly hopeless mission to stop the being who will turn their world to ash。 After falling in love with Aveyard’s Red Queen series, I was so excited to read Realm Breaker—and I was not disappointed。 Allward’s history, magic, mythology, and characters make this story unmissable。 The story has a diverse cast of characters: a young woman who descended from a royal bloodline, an honor-bound squire, an immortal desperate for revenge, an assassin, a sorceress who speaks in riddles, a forger hiding their past, and a bounty hunter。 Aveyard’s book also includes some of my favorite fantasy tropes: found family, ragtag group of heroes, enemies-to-lovers, villain romance, and a major theme of destiny。 Realm Breaker is full of empowered women who have strong, tough personalities and are not dependent on their male counterparts。 The women, especially Corayne, follow their own compasses and hold the fate of their world in their hands。 The complex characters and intricate world-building make Realm Breaker a wonderful addition to the YA Fantasy genre, and I excitedly await the sequel。 Content Warnings: Gore, violence, sexism, death, PTSD, grief, strong languageFollow us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook @pinereadsreview and check out our website at www。pinereadsreview。com for reviews, author interviews, blogs, podcast episodes, and more! 。。。more

It has been a long, long month of reading this book。 After struggling to understand the world-building through massive columns of info dumping, I just gave up and skimmed through the latter half of the book。 While Aveyard was quite ambitious in setting up the world-building and characters for this series, it felt like way too much and too fast。 The book juggled through at least 6 P。O。V。s, which made it hard to connect to or understand any of the characters。 Despite of the rapidly building world, It has been a long, long month of reading this book。 After struggling to understand the world-building through massive columns of info dumping, I just gave up and skimmed through the latter half of the book。 While Aveyard was quite ambitious in setting up the world-building and characters for this series, it felt like way too much and too fast。 The book juggled through at least 6 P。O。V。s, which made it hard to connect to or understand any of the characters。 Despite of the rapidly building world, the plot was frustratingly slow。 500+ pages later and the story had gone virtually no where。 I was really hoping to like this new series, but I doubt I’m going to buy the next book。 。。。more

⭐ 3 STARS ⭐( I sort of don't how to properly construct a review so I shall collect my opinions haphazardly。 )For readers who like Adventure and fantasy (Though fantasy elements felt little in the story to be quite honest。) as well as many characters and perspectives, this may be for you。Basically this book is about Realms being torn open by a villain, which is a bad thing I guess, and the main character Corayne, who is spindleblood and has a spindleblade, must close them。Now the writing, we all ⭐ 3 STARS ⭐( I sort of don't how to properly construct a review so I shall collect my opinions haphazardly。 )For readers who like Adventure and fantasy (Though fantasy elements felt little in the story to be quite honest。) as well as many characters and perspectives, this may be for you。Basically this book is about Realms being torn open by a villain, which is a bad thing I guess, and the main character Corayne, who is spindleblood and has a spindleblade, must close them。Now the writing, we all know by now, is good right off the bat but OH MY GOODNESS, why is the Prologue so damn long。The amount of point of view was。。。 a sight to read。 I dreaded some P。OV。 from characters because of how intolerable it was at first。 I found myself exhausted with all the iffy character introductions, the amount of P。OV。 and characters rather bland。 Corayne was not boring but she's not exactly compelling either and I found Sorasa annoying at times and Dom too dull。 The point is they all could be more。 Queen Erida was an interesting character and her descent to power, her P。O。V was a little less painful to read, and for some reason she felt more a villain than Taristan and Ronin who both felt so distant from the story。It took me a long time to get invested because at page like 200 or something, it felt like nothing was happening?? It was a good but a rather difficult read considering how long this is。In conclusion, I felt like everything and nothing was happening at the same time in this story。 But it was an okay read nonetheless。 。。。more

I didn’t finish this but weirdly I have a lot to say。 So realm breaker is more wheel of time than it is the red queen。 If you pick this up wanting anything close to a YA or even a modern fantasy, you will be disappointed。 Somehow VA has made a hard and weirdly unique turn into 90s style epic fantasy- and her writing has basting improved。 This is a extremely messy label- this is not a YA book in the least。 This is an adult fantasy with some young characters。That all said- only one of these charac I didn’t finish this but weirdly I have a lot to say。 So realm breaker is more wheel of time than it is the red queen。 If you pick this up wanting anything close to a YA or even a modern fantasy, you will be disappointed。 Somehow VA has made a hard and weirdly unique turn into 90s style epic fantasy- and her writing has basting improved。 This is a extremely messy label- this is not a YA book in the least。 This is an adult fantasy with some young characters。That all said- only one of these characters really did it for me and I struggled to care about them。 I think the authors massive growth is amazing, but you have to sit through a lot of forgettable characters to get to the morally grey characters and that’s not what in about right now。I do want to acknowledge what a radical step this is from the red queen and I would bet money on a ton of folks really hating this book- and also a ton more who would have loved it ignoring it because of the YA Label。 。。。more

This book was amazing! I had my doubts since I didn’t really enjoy Red Queen but Victoria outshined with Realm Breaker! Without spoiling anything the plot is fantastic, the characters are endearing and not copies and the world building is incredible。 That would be my one con though, I personally enjoy world building but I understand it’s not everyone’s cup of tea so just be aware of that before starting this book!

I wanted to love this one but I just couldn’t get into it。 The characters were interesting and the story has so much potential。 I’m hoping it was just because there were so many characters to introduce and storylines to set up and that the next one will really go somewhere 🤞🏻

3。5/5 This is my first Victoria Aveyard book and while I wasn't completely disappointed, I wasn't completely blown away either。 I think this book could've been cut down by at least 100 pages。 I felt like I've read a 500+ page book that really only contained maybe 400 pages worth of important content。 This sounds awful and it's not my intention to drag this book, because I thought that it had some very strong points。 I really enjoyed the characters and I was pleased with the relationships forged 3。5/5 This is my first Victoria Aveyard book and while I wasn't completely disappointed, I wasn't completely blown away either。 I think this book could've been cut down by at least 100 pages。 I felt like I've read a 500+ page book that really only contained maybe 400 pages worth of important content。 This sounds awful and it's not my intention to drag this book, because I thought that it had some very strong points。 I really enjoyed the characters and I was pleased with the relationships forged between them。 The reasons I rated this book 3 stars are: pacing, world building, and conflict。 To me these three areas of the story were all over the place。 Starting off with the world building: I was confused after the prologue。 So many people, worlds, and kingdoms were being introduced all at once at such a rapid rate that I couldn't retain any information。 This continued throughout the book in instances where locations and places would be introduced seemingly on every page。 Also I want to bring up the map on the inside covers, they're beautiful but soooo cluttered。 The font is so tiny that half the time I couldn't locate the places being mentioned。 I usually enjoy complex world building but this book just fell short for me。The issues I have with pacing and conflict go hand in hand。 Parts of the story were fast moving and flowed nicely into the next portion of the story, then other parts just dragged on for a long while。 Some of the conflicts seemed anticlimactic or were glossed over, yet there were chapters that just went nowhere。 Overall, I think this is a good start to a series, but I'm not sure I will continue it。 If the next book is 500+ pages I probably won't reach for it。 Yet if I have nothing else to read who knows。 。。。more

Anyways, the story starts with a battle between two twins, Cortael and Taristan (they both fight with a spindleblade)。 Taristan is found to be immortal and therefore immune to being stabbed, poisoned, etc and so he wins and opens a spindle and kills everyone。 Dom grabs dead Cortael's (they were bffs) spindleblade before Taristan can take it and throws it to Andry and he rides away and hides it。 They are the only two that survive that day。 Thinking of him was like picking at a barely healed scab, scraping blood away to bleed anew-Dom doesn't know how to grieve, chapter 9, pg 169They think all hope is lost, but then Dom hires Sorasa to help him find Corayne, Cortael's secret daughter that he abandoned。 To defeat Taristan, they need the spindleblade and Corayne's corblood (whatever line they were born in apparently is special, born to move, travel and open spindles? unclear on this, but her blood is special)。 "We don't choose what path we're born to, Corayne [。。。] we can only walk the path put in front of us。"Corayne shook her head [。。。] "I'm not sure why my path had to involve the end of the world。"-Erida and Corayne, chapter 15, pg 257Sorasa decides she wants to help save the world (and herself), and sticks with them。 I think that she is my favorite character。 Though a killer, she is the most fierce, brave and developed character in the book。 She's also a feminist queen。 "I've seen many things that would terrify most," she replied。 "Monsters and men。 Mostly men。"-Sorasa, chapter 10, pg 188 Her sword dripped rubies-Domacridhan watching Sorasa in action, chapter 18, pg 305 she dropped her gaze, her sunset eyes burning at her feet-Corayne describing Sorasa, chapter 19, pg 321They then travel to find Andry in Galland, because he has the spindleblade。 He thinks his queen, Erida, will side with them and send an army after Taristan, but SIKE, she forms a political alliance with team world destroyer and MARRIES Taristan, because she wants to be known as a queen who conquers。 I was mad about this at first and personally think she is foolish for doing this so quickly。 She talks to him one time before the wedding and doesn't even know what she's getting into。 She thinks that she has control of the situation, when in reality, and as the book shows her, she doesn't。 And she's gonna be in deep trouble。 I really liked her in the beginning, because she is such a feminist and doesn't put up with BS。 I still do like her。 Just frustrated she gave up her power for a cause she doesn't understand yet。 Conquest was in her blood。 It sated her better than any feast。-Erida, chapter 20, pg 338 Though women have more right to anger than men-Erida, chapter 7, pg 137I really did not see her marriage with Taristan coming。 Even with all the suspense the book created around it。 They do have some chemistry I think。 I can't tell。 Taristan isn't interested in "creating an heir" and on their wedding night he said "not like this"。 I don't know if that makes him a romantic or just not interested。 I think that their alliance would be way hotter if they were in love。 I'm so team Tarida。 "Unfortunately, Husband, we can only remake the world when we own it。"-Erida and Taristan wedding night, chapter 20, pg 348 His eyes met Erida's like lightning finding the earth。-Taristan and Erida, chapter 25, pg 438 "I knew in my bones I was not the same, not a man like the ones beside me, content to fight and fuck and farm, drinking their money and pissing their lives into nothing。 I wanted the horizon more than I wanted any cup or coin or concubine。"-Taristan, chapter 25, pg 441 (this line sold me on him) With deliberate motions, never breaking her gaze, Taristan laid a palm to the keen blade。"Let me bleed for you," he murmured。-Taristan opening a spindle with Erida, chapter 25, pg 445 She raised her chin。 "And I intend to use that terror to my advantage。""Good。 " Pride laced through Taristan's face-Erida and Taristand, chapter 25, pg 447After all this, the good guys find a witch and some other pals to help them out。 They travel to criminal lands and Corayne is fascinated and Andry is terrified。 They're also shooting sparks all over the place。 They're just friends for now but it's so obvious they love each other。 Whenever there's danger the first person Andry looks for is Corayne; and the first hand Corayne reaches for is Andry's。 There's not really much build up to this though。 From the first moment they meet it's there and they even hold hands then, too。 "It's nice to see you worry about something that isn't the end of the world,"-Corayne to Andry, chapter 23, pg 381Finally, the team closes the first spindle。 But there's still much to do。 The end, for now。Overall, the action was a little slow, but I think the descriptive writing kind of made up for it。 I was really impressed with the writing in this book, because usually action-adventure authors focus solely on the plot and leave little room for beautiful descriptions and turns of phrase。 Also, it seems like Corayne and Andry are the main characters- as in they have the most dialogue。 I think that if you are going to write in multiple voices you should try to make sure they are all sort of equal。 We didn't hear enough from Erida。 Her storyline interested me a lot more, and I don't think I quite understand her yet。 Also what's going on with Ridha? Is she gathering an army? I don't know her really at all, those parts just felt like filler to me, though I'm sure they'll be important later。 But yeah! Overall happy with this read, it's a little bit confusing and the plot isn't super engaging but I am excited to see what will happen with the characters in the next book。 。。。more

First and foremost, I want everyone to know that I absolutely loved this book so much。 It was practically everything I wanted and more for so many reasons。 Firstly, the overall plot of this novel is magnificent。 It was action-packed, there wasn't a single moment I was bored。 In fact, I was on the edge of my seat the entire time。 And, even though it was action-packed, it had the perfect pacing which I immensely liked。 Furthermore, it was an interesting concept with perfect execution。 Although in First and foremost, I want everyone to know that I absolutely loved this book so much。 It was practically everything I wanted and more for so many reasons。 Firstly, the overall plot of this novel is magnificent。 It was action-packed, there wasn't a single moment I was bored。 In fact, I was on the edge of my seat the entire time。 And, even though it was action-packed, it had the perfect pacing which I immensely liked。 Furthermore, it was an interesting concept with perfect execution。 Although in the beginning, I was a bit confused with the magic system, after a few chapters it came beautifully together and I understood everything。 In addition to that, the next thing I truly loved was the characters。 The main character, Corayne is undeniably amazing。 It was so interesting getting her back story and seeing her character growth。 I loved the way she handled things and how she was somewhat relatable。 One thing that I really liked was that in the beginning, she just wants to prove herself to her mother, but then as you gradually go on this journey with her, she wants to prove herself to herself which I think is amazing。 Furthermore, the other characters like Dom, Sorasa, Andry, and Valtik were utter perfection。 Andry is so wholesome, especially when he is making tea。 I love Dom so much, this immortal is just wholesome and somewhat clueless and I love that about him。 Sorasa is so strong and fierce and almost inspiring。 Valtik is a queen and I accept no slander about her。 Their entire dynamic together is just so enjoyable to read, their bickering, laughs, and struggles they go through are gorgeously written。 Also, the villains in this novel are just *chef kiss。* They know they're bad, and I know I should hate them, but I love them。 The romance between them is just so good。 I stan them。 Anyways, this is a way longer review than any other review I've written, but it's worth it。 I just can't put into words how much I loved this book, if you haven't read this then go read it now, you won't regret it。 。。。more

Right off the bat, you are plunged right into the story, with very little background information, but it brings you in, makes you want to know more。 There was a very great variety of characters, no one was a cardboard cutout, and they were all very original。 The few problems I did have in Realm Breaker were mostly world building, but that is just in the first 100 pages or so。 I also was expecting something a little。。。 more towards the ending, but it was a great ending。 Overall, I say this was a Right off the bat, you are plunged right into the story, with very little background information, but it brings you in, makes you want to know more。 There was a very great variety of characters, no one was a cardboard cutout, and they were all very original。 The few problems I did have in Realm Breaker were mostly world building, but that is just in the first 100 pages or so。 I also was expecting something a little。。。 more towards the ending, but it was a great ending。 Overall, I say this was a great read, and totally worth 15 dollars。 。。。more
